Gisborne has an opportunity few other regions anywhere in world do.

We can be carbon neutral and zero waste if we want to be.

Becoming the first carbon neutral region in the country would have a massive impact on our ability to take the great things about Gisborne to the world. People living here would be sought after as ‘experts’ around the world and we could sell the knowledge gained through the experience to just about every local government office in every country in the world.

Is this a vision we want to aspire to? Can we be, perhaps not self-sufficient, but rather establish a sustainable existence based on renewable energy, sustainable management of local resources and an ecological footprint that is fair and just?
